My first post is on Disneyland’s 55th “birthday”!
Last night, the cleaning crews took extra care to make sure I was clean and sparkling for the big day.
It was a busy day here, and I appreciate all who waved as they went past. It seems as if people used to stop and take notice of me, a lot more than these days. I suspect that it is just a change in culture and lifestyle, to hurry towards each destination. In the 50’s, people moved a little more slowly. I suppose people were forced to be a little slower in the parks back then, as they wore much more formal shoes than people wear these days. Back then, women regularly wore heels, and many boys didn’t wear tennis shoes! Men would wear sport coats and slacks. Disneyland was a much more formal place back then.
This birthday is a particularly special event, as the park opened in 1955 and it is now 55 years later. Disney never likes to let an opportunity to celebrate slip past, so I am sure we’ll have another celebration in 5 years. By the time we have the next celebration, my friends across the esplanade in Disney California Adventure will have many new attractions completed. What is in store for Disneyland though? There will be a new Star Tours and who knows what else!?
Here’s to another 55 years!
